Jean Wale Smith Latter1910 ~ 2011Our beloved aunt, grandmother and friend, 101 years, passed peacefully Tuesday evening, Dec. 20, 2011, after "waiting on the Lord day by day." She was born June 23, 1910, in LeGrande, Oregon, to William Moroni and Jean Nibley Wale. The family moved to Salt Lake in 1917. She graduated from LDS High in 1928. She met Wendell Smith in 1933. In her words "it was love at first sight". They married in the Salt Lake Temple May 2, 1934 then moved to San Francisco. He passed away ten months later and she moved back to Salt Lake. She later met Fullmer H. Latter and they married October 11, 1952. They had a long and loving marriage. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving as YWMIA President and later as leader of her Gleaner Girls whom she met with for over 60 years. She loved her girls and was dearly loved by them. She and Fullmer moved to Three Fountains in 1967, where she served as Relief Society President. She later served as scribe for Patriarch R. John Cummings. She also spent countless hours at her computer extracting genealogy right up until she turned 100. She loved being with her family and friends. She was beautiful inside and out, always concerned about and helping others. She will be greatly missed by all.
