Freedom Yocum Jr.1943 ~ 2011Freedom Yocum Jr. passed away on December 25, 2011, as a result of an accident in June of this year. Freedom was born April 15, 1943 to Simona Martinez and Freedom S. Yocum in SLC, Utah. Freedom leaves brothers, Billy George (Esther), LeRoy (Janet), Nino (Debbie), Joe, Ralph, Phillip; and sisters, Linda and Gloria (Terry); and a special aunt, LaVera Yocum (100 years old). Married to Edna Tafoya on September 11, 1964. They were married 47 years. Prior to his motorcycle accident in 1981, he was a well-known crane operator and belonged to the Operating Engineers Local #3. In 1990, Freedom started Yocum Auto Repair. He was a collector of antiques, brass, loved birds and helping the homeless. Survived by his wife, Edna Yocum; and six children, Lucky, Tony, Ben, Candace, Felita, and Crystal; and 28 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. The family would like to express thanks to the incredible staff at Sandy Rehab/Hospice as well as Midvale Paramedics that transported him numerous times. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State St., Midvale, Utah. Freedom's remains have been donated to the University of Utah Science Department at his request.
