Betty Cardwell Gladden1920 ~ 2011Betty Florence Cardwell Gladden, 91, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully December 26, 2011.Mom was born October 22, 1920 to Henry S. and Abigail Florence in Holladay, Utah, where she lived her entire life. When she was 21, she served her first mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Eastern Central States Mission. Upon returning home, she married George W. Cardwell July 9th, 1944. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on her birthday, in 1979. Dad passed away August 5, 1983. In the years following his death, she enjoyed working in the Salt Lake Temple as an ordinance worker and as a supervisor. During this time, she met Everett O. Gladden who was also a temple worker. They married May 15, 1987. Together they served a mission as ordinance workers in the Philippines Manilla Temple. Everett passed away July 4, 1995. Mom had a strong testimony, and loved the Lord and His gospel. Her greatest passion was her family. She was so proud of each of her children, and she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always the happiest when she had the entire family over for a summer picnic, or a holiday social. She was an avid reader, and loved working and spending time in her beautiful yard. In recent years, she enjoyed celebrating birthdays with her brothers and sisters.Mom is survived by her five children, Mike (Kay) Cardwell, Pat (Sharon) Cardwell, Kent (Marsha) Cardwell, Lisa (Mel) Josephson, and Penney (Scott) Henriksen, 22 grandchildren, and 46 great grandchildren with four more on the way. Also survived by sisters Margaret Perri, Ann Powell, Beverly (Dick) Pollei, Maxine Gonzales, and Penny Tolman, two brothers, Henry (Aurora) Florence and Giles (Nona) Florence. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Vivian and LaRue Florence, and brothers Calvin Florence and Ken Ingleby.Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the Olympus First Ward Chapel located at 4100 S. Camille Dr, SLC, UT. Viewings will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Cottonwood Mortuary located at 4670 South Highland Dr., and one hour prior to the service. Interment, Holladay Memorial Park.
