DALLAS — BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall announced that defensive lineman Marques Johnson has signed a national letter of intent with BYU and will enroll in January.
The 6-foot-2, 305 pound junior played for two seasons at El Camino Junior College and will have three years to play two.
"Marques is a talented young man who has achieved success both on and off the field," Mendenhall said in a statement. "He is an excellent football player and student with a strong work ethic. We look forward to having him join our program."
A Los Angeles native, Johnson attended Westchester High School.
This past season at El Camino JC, Johnson helped anchor one of the best defenses in the Southern California Football Association. El Camino was No. 2 in the league in sacks (38), pass defense (176.5 yards per game allowed), and scoring defense (19 ppg) and No. 3 in total defense (288.5 ypg).
Johnson recorded a team-high 14.5 tackles-for-loss for minus-38 yards, four sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was also recruited by Washington State and Indiana, among others.
