TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — It was another weird year in Florida. A giant Lego man washed up on a beach, a piano mysteriously appeared on a sandbar and a man walked into a bar, ordered a beer and left to rob a bank. Then, he returned to finish the beer.

Author Tim Dorsey, whose novels include Florida strangeness both real and fantasy, says the state is an odd place because of its diverse, highly transient population. He says there are pockets of strangeness all over the country, but in Florida it's a baseline lifestyle.

Other odd stories include airport security stopping a man with pythons and tortoise hatchlings in his underwear and the 92-year-old woman who fired at a neighbor who refused to kiss her.
