Evelyn Frances Simpson Bennett1916 ~ 2011On December 22nd 2011 on her 95th birthday, Evelyn Bennett died in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, ten days after suffering a stroke at her home. Words can hardly express how much she will be missed.Born in Belleville, Ontario on December 22nd 1916 to Oscar George Simpson and Sarah Jane Dumbleton, Mom was the youngest of five siblings. She spent a happy childhood moving occasionally between Belleville and Kingston. On September 21st 1939 she married Clifford Jones Bennett whom she first met at her father's outdoor skating rink in Belleville. The young couple soon moved to Sudbury, Ontario, where Dad would work as an underground miner with the International Nickel Company for almost 40 years. There they raised a family of two boys, C. Gary and Richard E. (Dick) Bennett, both of whom will be forever grateful for the love of a wise, kind and devoted mother and a good, caring and unselfish father. Mom willingly supported Dad's love for baseball and the piano. Years later they moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mom enjoyed life and the many wonderful things it had to offer. She loved to travel, watch a good movie, read, swim, and grow flowers. A child of the Great Depression, she also learned the discipline of managing money well. Full of common sense, bountiful faith, and strong convictions, she and Dad were pioneer members of the Sudbury Branch of the Canadian Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) since their baptism in 1952. Their marriage was later solemnized for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in August 1960. Dad passed away in August 1991 and is buried in Orem. She was also predeceased by her siblings Alice Wardhaugh, Bertha"Bun"Hochmuth, Albert George Simpson, and Doris Thurber. Besides her two sons and their wives, Mary (Babcock) and Patricia (Dyer), Mom is survived by ten grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation/gathering will take place at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North in Orem on Monday evening January 2nd from 6-8:00 p.m. Her funeral will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 3rd at the LDS chapel at 445 South 700 East in Orem.
