Our Dear Sweet Grace Delores Sonderegger (Cordner) Stewart passed away Sunday March 6, 2011, in Provo after a sudden illness. She was born February 7, 1918 in Midway, Utah, the second of nine children born to Ernest and Grace Watkins Sonderegger. She was a descendent of pioneer ancestry from Switzerland and England, including John Watkins, a member of the Martin Hand Cart Company. She was married to Walter Stewart on June 30, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were later divorced. On February 14, 1969, she married Thomas Cordner who preceded her in death. Delores had thirteen grandchildren who came to love and adore their "Grandma Delores." For her thirty great-grandchildren there was always a piece of candy in the candy dish and a closet full of toys waiting for them. She was an exceptional cook, homemaker, and gardener. Her home was a refuge to all who walked through the door. Our Sweet Delores was a joy to all who knew her. She was a primary teacher at the Wildwood Branch in Provo Canyon for many years. She was famous for the hundreds of small loaves of bread she baked through the years to give to each child on Pioneer Day. All who knew Delores loved and appreciated her optimistic cheerfulness in the face of challenges and opportunities. She graduated from LDS Business College and worked as a legal secretary and office manager for several companies in the Salt Lake City, Orem and Provo areas. She also lived and worked in Monticello, Utah. Delores was the President of both the Lions Club and Lady Lions Clubs of Orem for many years during which she was principally instrumental in raising funds for many charitable causes. Delores was a very faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a faithful visiting teacher until the end of her life. We will greatly miss you our Darling and Amazing Delores. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Carolyn Delores, and brothers, Ernest, Ferron, Evan, and Roy, also sisters Maurine and Thora. She is survived by her sister, Colleen Jones; brothers, Clayton (Reta) Sonderegger, Emery (Laree) Sonderegger, sister-in-law Marilyn (Ferron) Sonderegger, sister-in-law Vernetta (Ernest) Sonderegger; her two sons, Walter Noel and Doyal Evan (Susan) Stewart. Funeral Services will be held at the Sharon Park 4th Ward 310 N. 100 E. Orem on Saturday March 12 at 2:00 pm. A viewing will be held one hour previous to the service and also Friday March 11 from 6 to 8:00 pm at same location.
