WEST VALLEY CITY — Police have released a composite sketch of a man wanted in connection with the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old boy.

On March 18, a boy was walking his dog in the area of 1200 West and 3800 South about 6:30 p.m. when a dark blue 1990s model Dodge Durango pulled up. Police say the driver asked the boy if he liked Sponge Bob.

The boy said the man then showed the boy a Sponge Bob pillow he had in his vehicle and told him to come closer. Instead, the boy started running toward his home.

The man drove alongside him and told him to stop because he wanted to talk to him, according to police. The man tried to cut off the boy with his vehicle, but was unable because of another car. Police say he then sped away.

The man was described as white in his early- to mid-40s, weighing between 250 and 300 pounds with dark hair, a balding spot on top of his head, dark eyes and a long, dark beard. Police say he was last seen wearing a black leather coat.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to call police at 801-840-4000.
