BYU fans shouldn't get too excited as it was only 10-20 Wyoming. But a lot of what helped the Cougars vault to No. 3 in the nation was back after a brief New Mexico vacation. Senior night was fun for Jimmer Fredette, Jackson Emery and Logan Magnusson.
STARTERS
Jimmer Fredette: Some of Fredette's moves are so pretty they should be illegal (or at least against the Honor Code). He shot the ball well (4-9 on 3-pointers), played a smart floor game and said a fond farewell to his hometown fans with 38 points while surviving another physical pounding by his opponents. Grade: A-
Jackson Emery: Good day for the Emery family as Jackson had one of his best shooting nights of the season (4-5 from deep, 18 points), while little bro Nick had 20 points to lead Lone Peak to the Utah 5A State Championship. Nick averaged 22 points a game for the Knights. Too bad he's only a sophomore. BYU will miss Jackson. Grade: A
Charles Abouo: When Abouo decides to be aggressive, he is an all-conference caliber player. On Wednesday night, he settled for deep shots and played the perimeter and it resulted in an awful 1-6 shooting game with three rebounds. Against the Cowboys on Saturday afternoon, the junior made 9-of-12 shots (mostly driving layups), had seven rebounds and two steals. Grade: A
Noah Hartsock: The junior from Oklahoma still hasn't found his shooting touch again, but had three assists and a blocked shot. But BYU needs more than four rebounds from their starting power forward. Grade: B-
Kyle Collinsworth: Making his first start since a concussion sidelined him more than a month ago, the freshman looked like the young man who Dave Rose trusted to start early in the year despite being in high school just a few months earlier. Great line for Collinsworth, who had 11 points, eight rebounds and one monster slam dunk. Grade: A
RESERVES
Logan Magnusson: Last game at home for the former Dixie State and Salt Lake Community College star and it turned out all right. He'll never fill up a stat sheet, but Magnusson took a couple of charges and had six rebounds and four assists. Grade: B
Stephen Rogers: Oops, Rogers has lost his shot. The Cougars need him to find it next week somewhere in Las Vegas. He did provide some valuable minutes when Hartsock and Emery were battling foul troubles in the first half. Grade: C
James Anderson: Played seven minutes and had one basket, but again couldn't find it in his repertoire to track down a rebound. That's got to change if he wants to see some of the minutes that BYU has with the absence of Brandon Davies. Grade: C-
Brock Zylstra: Played five minutes and had two rebounds. Grade: Incomplete.
Nick Martineau: Had one assist in very limited action for the guy who is supposed to be next year's point guard. Grade: Incomplete.
