HOUSTON — Relatives of the four children killed in a Houston home day care fire are frustrated that the woman accused of leaving the children alone was able to flee to Nigeria.
Authorities said they're doing everything they can to find Jessica Tata and bring her back to the U.S. That's little comfort for relatives who say the investigation has been mishandled.
Investigators believe Tata fled two days after the Feb. 24 blaze that also injured three children. Tata is facing manslaughter and other charges.
Court documents indicate that local prosecutors and arson investigators have bickered over whether possible delays in charging Tata could have given her an opportunity to run.
Fire investigators also say they relayed a tip that Tata might flee, but prosecutors say they never got the information.
