Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Edna Lynn Smart left us the morning of March 3rd at the age of 97. She was born April 5, 1913 in Lovell, Wyoming to Rosmus Meltire Lynn and Lydia Annie Stratton Lynn. She was the seventh of ten children. She spent a happy, carefree childhood in Lovell, WY and at age 12 moved to Utah County. She met her soul mate, Herbert F. Smart at Provo High School. They married on July 3, 1931, enjoying 70 years together until his passing on Nov 29, 2001. She lived in Salt Lake City most of her adult life. Edna was an avid golfer, still hitting the links at age 86. She made two hole in ones, the last at age 81. Her favorite club was a seven Ginty wood. She was a prolific reader, finishing a book every few days. She excelled at sewing, made her daughter beautiful clothes as a child and made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for her grandchildren. She loved all games, especially cards. An active and dedicated Democrat, Edna never missed the opportunity to vote, even at 96. She met several of our nations Presidents including FDR, Harry Truman, JFK and LBJ, and candidates Thomas Dewey and Robert Kennedy. The President she most enjoyed meeting was David O. McKay of the LDS Church. She was a most loving and generous mother, nursing and caring for her children through some very difficult times. Her sunny disposition, happy smile, bubbly voice and caring ways will be sorely missed by those that knew and loved her. She set a wonderful example for her family of what love is. She is survived by her three children: Martin L. Smart, Herbert F. Smart, Jr. (Kathy), Lynda Smart Brown, two younger sisters, Marjory Groneman and Berneda Croft; ten grandchildren, 19 great grand children, and eight great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by many that she loved dearly. The family wishes to thank Nichole, Amy and Shelby from Our House Assisted Living, MacKenzie and Diane from Sunbrook Hospice and special friend Jill Jeppson for their compassionate care and friendship. Graveside services will be Wed. March 9th at 11:30 a.m. at Murray City Cemetery. Friends and family may call on March 8th from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Memorial Estates, 5850 S. 900 E. Murray and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the graveside service.
