Charles Allison Rhodes 1922 ~ 2011

Beloved father, grandfather and friend, Charles "Dusty" Rhodes, 88, passed away quietly, February 28, 2011. Born August 30, 1922 in Oregon City, Oregon to John Charles Rhodes and Ina Amelia Swigart. He married Elizabeth Erickson June 15, 1944 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He and his wife, Elizabeth, served a mission in Ghana, Africa and London, England. Dusty served in the United States Army during World War II in both the Pacific and European theaters. He was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for bravery. He also served in the Utah Army National Guard as First Sergeant in the 115th Engineering Battalion during the Korean War and then in the 19th Special Forces until he retired. His most admirable trait was his total love and devotion to his beloved wife whom he has now rejoined. He is survived by his children Michael (Darlene) Rhodes, Penny (Jim Robertson) Snow, Sheila (Garry T.) Bringhurst, Cherie Frear, John (Cheryle) Rhodes, Lisa Edwards McCloyn, Daniel (Shannon) Rhodes, 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brothers, Luther Rhodes, Walter Rhodes and Fred Rhodes, and his sister Grace Rhodes. There will be a viewing Monday, March 7, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m., at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Chapel, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights , Utah with a viewing one hour prior to services.
