WHITEFISH, Mont. — Frontier Conference commissioner Kent Paulson announced the 2010-2011 all-conference women's basketball team, as well as individual award winners today.
Westminster had Dani Evans, Michelle Pace, and Nicole Yazzie named First Team All-Conference along with JD Gustin being named the Coach of the Year. Westminster and Lewis-Clark State each had three of the 12 first team members. This is the first all-conference honor for Evans and Pace while Yazzie is honored for a second straight season.
Evans is averaging 10.6 points per game this season and leads the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 41.2%. The 5-9 senior from Morgan, Utah, became the fifth player in school history to score 1,000 career points earlier this season and her seven made three against Rocky Mountain on January 15 are the most of anyone in the conference this season.
Pace leads the Griffins in scoring at 13.6 points per game. She ranks sixth in the conference in that category while placing seventh in free throw percentage at 77.2%. The 6-0 senior from Holladay, Utah also leads the team in rebounds and blocks. Her 33 total blocks is the 40th-best total in the NAIA.
Yazzie returns to the all-conference first team after scoring 12.1 points per game along with a team-best 121 assists. The 5-7 guard from Taylorsville, Utah ranks 19th nationally with 72 makes from beyond the arc and 22nd with 2.25 made threes per night. Yazzie shoots 36.4% from beyond the arc to rank 47th nationally and her 3.78 assists per game is 46th in the NAIA.
This is the third straight coach of the year honor for Gustin. He guided the Griffins to a third consecutive regular season conference title with a 12-2 mark in league games. Westminster is 26-6 overall this season and surpassed the 20-win plateau for a fifth straight year.
