U.S. stocks are opening lower a day after the market broke its longest losing streak in more than a year.

Stocks suffered this month as weak economic news dampened hopes for a speedy economic recovery. The Dow Jones industrial average is down 5 percent since June began.

Unless shares recover sharply Friday, they are on track for their sixth straight weekly loss — the longest down series since the fall of 2002.

Global markets are mixed amid weak trade numbers from China and an impasse over Greece's debt crisis.

In early trading, the Dow is down 45 points, or 0.4 percent, at 12,079. The Standard & Poor's 500 is down 5, or 0.4 percent, at 1,283. The Nasdaq composite index is down 9, or 0.3 percent at 2,676.
