MEN'S SOCCER: The Griffins have signed another 10 recruits to a Frontier Conference letter of intent, head coach Chris Dorich announced today. Westminster has now added 15 student-athletes to the roster for the 2011 season.
Dorich announced that Jacob Barrett, Toby Brotherton, Luke Chouinard, Skyler Doran, Liam Harry, Blake Heldt-Werle, Collin Hintze, Austin Phelps, Daniel Ramirex and James Ward will all be attending Westminster and playing soccer this fall.
Barrett will join the Griffins from Irvine, Calif. where the 6-foot-1 midfielder attended University High School. He was a team captain for the Varsity team as a senior.
Brotherton comes to Westminster from Conyers, Ga. He is a 5-foot-7 defender that prepped at Heritage High School where he scored three goals during his senior season. Brotherton was named Second Team All-Region in both soccer and football this past season. He is also a UGA Certificate of Merit winner and AP Scholar.
Chouinard is from Boise, Idaho and attended Borah Senior High School. The 6-foot-2 midfielder scored 20 goals during his three seasons playing varsity soccer and made the Senior All-Star team last season. Borah Senior won the state championship last season and Chouinard tallied two assists in the title game. He was an All-SIC Honorable Mention performer as a senior and was named Academic All-SIC three times.
Doran prepped at Juan Diego Catholic School and is from Sandy, Utah. This season the 6-foot-1 midfielder helped his team to a 15-3-1 record and a trip to the 3A State Championship Game. Doran scored 15 goals as a senior after being named first team All-State as a junior.
Harry will join Westminster from Boise, Idaho where the 5-foot-9 midfielder attended Capital High School. He scored 13 goals for Capital and was named second team All-Conference as a senior. Harry is also a Boise Century Rotary Scholar and Senior Scholar.
Heldt-Werle is from Zephyr Cove, Nev. where he attended George Whittell High School. The 5-foot-11 defender helped Whittell win a State championship as a senior. We was a four-year starter that was honorable second team All-State as a senior after being honorable mention All-State during his junior year.
Hintze comes to Westminster from Draper, Utah where he attended Alta High School. The 6-foot-1 midfielder won a 5A State Championship as a senior as Alta went 18-1-1 this past season. Hintze tallied his only goal of the season against American Fork on April 26. He has been on the Honor Roll every year while at Alta and has received his advanced honors diploma.
Phelps is from Bountiful, Utah where the 5-foot-9 midfielder prepped at Viewmont High School. He scored one goal during the team's 16-1-2 season in which they advanced to the semi-finals of the 5A State Tournament.
Ramirez comes to the Griffins from West Jordan, Utah. The 5-foot-5 midfielder prepped at Juan Diego Catholic School and helped the Soaring Eagle advance to the 3A State Championship game.
Ward will come to Westminster from Albuquerque, N.M. where the 5-foot-10 midfielder attended Eldorado High School.
