AMERICAN FORK — An 8-year-old child was pulled from the American Fork River and transported to the hospital by ambulance late Wednesday night. Officials say he was likely in the water for two hours.

As of 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, there was no official report on the boy's condition. His mother was also reportedly taken to the hospital after going into the river, though it is unclear if she had fallen in or went in after her son. She was pulled to safety soon after.

The child was camping with his family when he reportedly fell into the river, Utah County Sheriff's Office officials said. A camper downstream reporting seeing the child float by and rescue crews were stationed along the river searching for the child.

The incident marks the fourth child in two weeks to have fallen into Utah waterways.
