WEST VALLEY CITY — A West Valley man was charged with assault Thursday after allegedly threatening the life of his former girlfriend.

The woman told police that the man had slashed the front tire of her vehicle. While investigating the incident, officers discovered that one week earlier the man had thrown gasoline on the pregnant woman while she was smoking a cigarette, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court.

The man threatened to kill the woman and burn down the house if she contacted police, the charges state. The woman is currently pregnant with the man's child.

James Valoy Morrill, 34, was charged with assault, a class A misdemeanor, threat of violence and two counts criminal mischief, class B misdemeanors.
