SALT LAKE CITY — A Sandy man faces federal charges after allegedly throwing peanuts and pretzels at a Southwest Airlines flight attendant who asked him to put away his electronic cigarette during a flight from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City.
Federal authorities say Pogos Paul Sefilian, 42, loudly argued with the flight attendant over use of the electronic cigarettes. The attendant showed him a copy of the airlines policy prohibiting them.
"Later in the flight he began to throw peanuts and pretzels at the flight attendant and toward the flight deck," according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court. "The flight attendant talked to Sefilian and asked him to sit down and behave himself the rest of the flight."
Just before landing in Salt Lake City, Sefilian stood up and began opening overhead containers, the complaint says. "During these events, Sefilian walked to the front of the aircraft, postured his chest out at the flight attendants less than a foot from their person, and finally sat down moments before touchdown."
Sefilian faces a charge of interfering with a flight crew.
