MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The judge in Alabama's gambling corruption trial has warned a defense attorney that he better quit referring to a witness by the wrong name.
For three days, a defense attorney for indicted casino owner Milton McGregor has repeatedly referred to Country Crossing casino lobbyist Jarrod Massey as "Mr. Gilley." That's the developer of Country Crossing, Ronnie Gilley. Defense attorney Bobby Segall has been questioning Massey since Tuesday.
U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson told attorney Segall on Thursday that the incorrect references are no longer humorous and he better not do it again. Segall apologized and said it was not intentional.
The judge's warning came one day after McGregor's lawyers improperly handed an FBI document to a juror. The judge said he considered that accidental, but he cautioned against a repeat.
