SOUTH SALT LAKE — A standoff situation at a home near 3800 South and 500 East in South Salt Lake ended peacefully Thursday morning.
Police say the incident began with an argument between a husband and wife at the home and quickly escalated. At some point, multiple gunshots were fired.
Around 3:30 a.m., the wife left the home and hurt herself while leaving, so she went to a local hospital. Police were called about 5:45 a.m., and the standoff situation ensued shortly thereafter.
"They barricaded in the house. We knew there were firearms and that prompted us to get our SWAT team," South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said.
After several hours of negotiations over the phone, two men inside the home were brought out in handcuffs. One of the men was the woman's husband. It isn't known how the other man is involved in this situation.
Police say alcohol was a factor in the standoff.
