Ethel Mae Scott Engel Soter, our strong brave mom passed away July 12, 2011 of complications from pneumonia at her home in Salt Lake City surrounded by loved ones after a brief hospital stay.Ethel was born on September 12, 1925 in Mesa, Arizona to Veda Alvina Rowley and Andrew Hunter Scott. She grew up in Prescott, Arizona and was proud of her service to her country as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Williams Air Base in Phoenix during World War II. She married William John Engel, later divorced. Married Jerry Michael Soter, later divorced. Besides her family and dear neighbors, she loved the Jazz and bowling. She bowled twice a week and most recently in a summer league just a few weeks ago. Ethel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints embracing and incorporating the gospel into her later life. She was strong, faithful and a great example to us especially in her last few days. She is the last to join her eternal family. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Belva Carlson, Donal Scott, Theo Scott and Zola Jensen as well as her son-in-law, Paul Welter. Survived by three daughters, who will miss her greatly: Karen (Ken) Kirkman, Debbie Welter and Jeannette (Robert) Staker; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children. A viewing will be held Friday, July 15, 2011, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Foothill 1st Ward, 1933 South 2100 East followed by a graveside service at the West Jordan City Cemetery located at 1300 West and 7800 South in West Jordan.
