I agree with Harry A. Haycock ("Can't meet in the middle," Readers' Forum, July 13) that the federal automobile is going over the cliff, and that taking our foot off of the pedal is not enough but that we need to put on the brakes.

It seems that the federal government cannot be stopped from its spending craze, and that it, like "Pac-man," is consuming our GNP, state funds and all the taxes it can raise. The only answer is no more taxes, no more spending and no more credit increases.
