CHICAGO — The Florida Marlins are nowhere near contention in the NL East. That doesn't mean they can't enjoy this run.
Pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs delivered a two-run double against closer Carlos Marmol, and the Florida Marlins scored six times in the ninth inning to rally for a 6-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night that extended their season-high winning streak to six games.
"It's huge," Dobbs said. "It keeps us moving in the right direction, which is really good. We're going to fight it out — we have to. We can't give up. We're building off things right now. We just have to keep riding off the momentum, keep executing."
The Marlins trailed 2-0 before sending 11 batters to the plate in their final at-bat while pulling out a dramatic victory.
Matt Garza threw seven scoreless innings for Chicago and Sean Marshall worked the eighth, but Marmol (2-3) unraveled while picking up his seventh blown save opportunity in 26 chances.
ROCKIES 12, BREWERS 3: At Denver, Ryan Spilborghs had a home run among four hits and Ubaldo Jimenez pitched six solid innings for Colorado. Spilborghs finished a triple shy of the cycle while registering his first four-hit games in more than two seasons.
GIANTS 6, PADRES 2 (12 INNINGS): At San Diego, Luke Gregerson gave up five runs — all unearned — in the 12th inning as the Giants won for the fifth time in six games. Eli Whiteside had three hits to lead San Francisco.
