SANDWICH, England — Amateur Tom Lewis has achieved his first goal — making the cut at his first British Open. Now he has some other goals.

The 20-year-old Englishman shook up the tournament in the first round with a 5-under 65 that gave him the share of the lead at Royal St. George's. He was the first amateur to lead the British Open since 1968.

Friday's second round proved more troublesome. He shot a 74 but remains in contention entering the weekend.

Lewis says it would be nice to be among the top 15 and finish as the leading amateur.
