John Robert Doll 8/20/1941 ~ 7/9/2011
Mr. John Robert Doll, age 69, passed away July 9, 2011 following an extended illness at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.John was born August 20, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is the son of the late Gerrit Doll and Hattie Henschell Doll. John attended Grand Rapids Central High School and graduated in 1960. After graduation he served his country as a radar repairman specialist in the United States Air Force. John was stationed in both Alaska and Michigan. He received an honorable discharge in 1964. Following his discharge John worked on a cyclotron at the University of Chicago. He later moved to Salt Lake City with his friends and was employed by Union Pacific Railroad. He worked at the railroad as an Electrician on locomotives from 1976 until his retirement in 2002. John joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. John was devoted to his religion and found comfort in the studies he shared with fellow Mormons. He especially found comfort in those who shared and came to his home when he was not well enough to attend services. John especially found interest in engines, the larger and more powerful the better. His interest included both aeronautic and automotive. John enjoyed piloting his Cessna 150F airplane. John's numerous interest also included snow skiing. John was a member of Air Craft Owners and Pilot Association (AOPA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Mr. Doll is survived by his three sisters, Loretta Doll Nethercot of Charleston, South Carolina; Barbara Doll Crook and husband Jim of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Martha Sue Doll Stefaniak and husband Jerome of The Woodlands, Texas; five nieces, one nephew, four great nieces, and one great nephew.
