We were told that America couldn't bear the conviction of an impeached president, so the Senate acquitted Bill Clinton in February 1999 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. We were told without the $787 billion stimulus that our economy would collapse and we'd suffer an economic depression.
We were told that without the GM and Chrysler bailouts, the auto industry would collapse along with the supporting parts and services industries. We're told that man made global warming is the next apocalypse and that government cap and trade policies will save us and the planet.
We are sold fear because our politicians think and live small and believe Americans do the same — that somehow we are too weak to test our Constitution, work through a GM bankruptcy or survive climate hysteria. Now we're told that increasing the debt limit is the answer to world economic stability. Enough. We will only default on our obligations if we default on our adversity-born American identity and continue to elect men and women with historical amnesia who live in fear and smallness.
