TORONTO — CC Sabathia won his seventh straight start to become the first 14-game winner in the majors, Brett Gardner had three hits and the New York Yankees beat Toronto 4-1 on Saturday, ending the Blue Jays' five-game winning streak.
Derek Jeter got two hits and matched Al Kaline for 26th place on baseball's career list. Jeter singled in the ninth for hit No. 3,007.
Sabathia (14-4) allowed one run and three hits in eight innings.
Mariano Rivera pitched around a pair of singles to finish in the ninth for his 23rd save in 27 chances.
Ricky Romero (7-9) Romero lost his second straight start and has now failed to pitch into the seventh in three straight games after doing so in each of his previous eight outings. Romero allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out seven.
ANGELS 4, ATHLETICS 2 (FIRST GAME); ATHLETICS 4, ANGELS 3 (SECOND GAME, 10 INNINGS): At Oakland, Calif., Scott Sizemore singled with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting the Athletics to a split of the first scheduled doubleheader in the major leagues in eight years. This was the first planned doubleheader in the big leagues since Aug. 2, 2003, when San Diego played at Philadelphia.
ORIOLES 6, INDIANS 5: At Baltimore, Alfredo Simon pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, Nick Markakis homered and scored three runs, and the Orioles ended a nine-game losing streak. Baltimore took a 6-2 lead into the ninth inning before closer Kevin Gregg gave up three straight one-out walks. After Lonnie Chisenhall struck out, Orlando Cabrera cleared the bases with a double. Mike Gonzalez then retired Grady Sizemore on a grounder to earn his first save and help Baltimore snap its longest skid of the year.
WHITE SOX 5, TIGERS 0: At Detroit, Edwin Jackson pitched his first complete game since his no-hitter last year, and Juan Pierre added four hits to lead Chicago.
RED SOX 9, RAYS 5: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury and Josh Reddick homered and Boston rallied from an early three-run deficit against All-Star James Shields to beat Tampa Bay. John Lackey (7-8) struck out seven while allowing four runs and 10 hits over 52/3 innings for the AL East leaders.
TWINS 4, ROYALS 3: At Minneapolis, Michael Cuddyer singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and Joe Nathan did his job as the new closer, giving Minnesota a win over Kansas City. Nathan finished for his fourth save in seven chances. Earlier in the day, the Twins put the former All-Star back into his familiar role, replacing the struggling Matt Capps.
RANGERS 5, MARINERS 1: At Seattle, Ian Kinsler hit two home runs off Mariners ace Felix Hernandez and the Rangers won their 10th straight game. C.J. Wilson (10-3) allowed just one run over seven innings and struck out seven in shutting down an inept Mariners lineup. The winning streak is the longest in the majors this season. For the Mariners, it was their season-high eighth straight loss.
