TACOMA, Wash. — Bear Bay went seven strong innings and Gil Velazquez had a big day at the plate as the Salt Lake Bees snapped their eight-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Tacoma Rainiers Sunday afternoon.
Bay (7-5) picked up the victory as he went seven innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with a season high seven strikeouts. Bay has now won five of his last seven starts for the Bees. Horacio Ramirez recorded a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fifth save of the season.
Jeff Baisley gave the Bees a 2-0 lead in fourth inning with his 18th home run of the season. After Tacoma scored an unearned run in the sixth, Velazquez led off the seventh with his fifth homer of the year. He later added a two-run double in the eighth. Velazquez ended with three hits and three runs batted in, while Tyson Auer added a pair of infield singles.
