Sybil C. Hansen 1917 ~ 2011
Sybil Cora Shoup Hansen died on July 15, 2011 at the age of 93 after a short battle with cancer. Born October 4, 1917 in Kismet, Kansas, she was the ninth and youngest child of Charles Henry Shoup and Josie Lana Cory. Her parents both died when she was a young child, and she was adopted by her maternal aunt, Eatha Yunker at the age of two. Sybil grew up in Greensburg, Kansas and moved to Utah in 1938 where she married Ellery Hansen in 1940 (later divorced). She attended the University of Utah where she received a Bachelor's degree in 1966 and a Master's degree in Educational Psychology in 1971. She worked for Children's Service Society and was the first director of RSVP for Salt Lake County in 1972. She was later employed by Social Security Disability Agency where she retired in 1983. Sybil and Ellery raised five children: Dale Cory, Alan Robert, Brent Ellery, Chris Larry and Lynette. Sybil had many hobbies: reading, quilting, crocheting, dancing, and she loved golf and playing bridge after retirement. Travel was always a big part of her life where she especially loved travelling to Third World countries and many trips to Europe. Sybil is survived by three children: Alan (Ann), Brent, and Lynette (Steven) Starley, six grandchildren and fourteen great- grandchildren. Sybil was preceded in death by two sons: Dale and Chris, four brother and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, with a viewing from 7:00 to 8:00 on Monday evening and one hour prior to services at the mortuary.
