SEATTLE — Matt Harrison allowed one run in 7 2-3 innings, Mitch Moreland hit a three-run homer and the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 3-1 on Sunday for their 11th consecutive victory.
The Rangers' streak is baseball's best since Philadelphia won 11 in a row last September and is tied for second-best in team history.
Harrison (8-7) allowed five hits, struck out four and walked one, continuing Texas' run of dominant pitching. The Rangers held Seattle to two runs over 36 innings in the four-game set. Going back to before the All-Star break, Texas has allowed just two runs in its last 47 innings.
Neftali Feliz struck out a pair in the ninth for his 20th save in 24 chances.
Blake Beavan (1-1) gave up three runs and six hits in 6 2-3 innings for Seattle, which has lost nine straight and trails AL West-leading Texas by 11 1/2 games.
TWINS 4, ROYALS 3: At Minneapolis, Jim Thome hit his 596th career home run and Joe Nathan picked up the save for the second day in a row, lifting Minnesota to the win. Thome's tiebreaking three-run drive off Felipe Paulino soared into the upper deck in right-center field in the sixth inning, leaving him four shy of becoming the eighth player to hit 600 home runs.
TIGERS 4, WHITE SOX 3: At Detroit, Carlos Guillen hit a tiebreaking RBI single in Detroit's three-run sixth inning, leading the Tigers to the victory. The Tigers came back from a 3-0 deficit and avoided a three-game sweep. Chicago led 3-1 when Victor Martinez tied it with a two-run single in the sixth. Jhonny Peralta then singled, and Guillen followed with a line drive to right field that drove in Martinez.
YANKEES 7, BLUE JAYS 2: At Toronto, Phil Hughes pitched six effective innings to earn his first win of the season as the Yankees salvaged a split of the four-game series. Brett Gardner had three hits and Curtis Granderson finished with three RBIs for the Yankees, who were outscored 23-8 over the first two games in the set.
ATHLETICS 9, ANGELS 1: At Oakland, Conor Jackson hit his first career grand slam to highlight Oakland's eight-run first inning. Hideki Matsui added a two-run single as the A's sent 14 batters to the plate and chased Joel Pineiro (5-4) after just one-third of an inning. Seven of the runs came before an out was recorded, a first for Oakland in its history at the Coliseum.
ORIOLES 8, INDIANS 3: At Baltimore, Robert Andino homered and had a career-high four RBIs, and Baltimore secured its first winning streak in nearly a month. Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters hit solo shots for the Orioles, who scored the final eight runs after falling behind 3-0 in the first inning. Baltimore had not put together successive victories since June 19-20 before winning twice to earn a split of the series.
RED SOX at RAYS, late: At Tampa, Fla., Boston and Tampa Bay were scoreless through the 15th inning at press time. At the time, it was the third-longest scoreless game in major league history. Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon was was ejected by plate umpire Chad Fairchild in the 11th inning. Maddon was on the mound with several players and appeared to make comments about balls and strikes toward Fairchild. Later in the 11th, a fan ran onto the playing surface and was tackled by security guards in center field after a brief chase. The Red Sox loaded the bases with no outs but couldn't score. The threat ended when Marco Scutaro fouled out to catcher Kelly Shoppach.
