MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A casino lobbyist who pleaded guilty to bribery has testified that he never had a specific agreement with two indicted state senators to vote for pro-gambling legislation in return for campaign contributions.
Country Crossing lobbyist Jarrod Massey gave the testimony Monday while being questioned by defense attorneys for Sen. Quinton Ross of Montgomery and former Sen. Jim Preuitt of Talladega.
Massey said Ross had always supported electronic bingo legislation and never showed any signs of wavering.
Massey said he and Preuitt never discussed a connection between Preuitt's vote and campaign contributions. He said Preuitt's vote for the gambling bill was in question up until he joined Ross in casting yes votes on March 30, 2010.
Monday is Massey's eighth day on the witness stand.
