SALT LAKE CITY — The public has the opportunity to join the Bureau of Land Management on a tour to view the long-term benefits of a special grazing program at the Three Creeks Allotment of Deseret Land and Livestock in Woodruff.

Because of limited space and parking, only the first four vehicles that are signed onto the Aug. 4 tour will be allowed to accompany members of the BLM's Resource Advisory Council.

The event is from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features the chance to see what benefits have occurred to wildlife, livestock water quality and recreational opportunities as a result of "time control" grazing. Vehicles on the tour should be four-wheel drive and have heavy-duty tires due to the terrain.

To sign on for the tour or to receive carpool directions, contact special programs coordinator Sherry Foot at 801-539-4195 by the close of business July 25.

The Resource Advisory Council is also having a business meeting Aug. 4 in the BLM's Monument Conference Room on the fifth floor at 440 W. 200 South. Among topics to be discussed is a follow up to the tour and an air quality status update.

A conference call with BLM director Bob Abbey will be from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and will specifically address the council's involvement in the Great Outdoors Initiative launched by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. A half-hour public comment period in which residents can address to the council will be from 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
