MIAMI — An FBI agent has testified that the son of a Miami imam was a key part of his father's alleged support network for the Pakistani Taliban terror group.
Agent Michael Ferlazzo said at a bail hearing Tuesday that 37-year-old Irfan Khan shared his father's backing for violence directed against Pakistan's government. Ferlazzo says Irfan Khan made many such statements on more than 1,000 recorded phone calls with his father and other alleged conspirators.
Irfan Khan's defense attorney is seeking his release on bail. She argues that there is little evidence linking him to terrorism support.
A judge has already refused bail for the father, 76-year-old Hafiz Khan. A bail decision is pending for another son, 24-year-old Izhar Khan.
They have pleaded not guilty to funneling money to the Pakistani Taliban.
