HURRICANE, Washington County — Three people accused of printing counterfeit money, IDs and other documents have been arrested in southern Utah in what police are calling a significant bust.

In making the arrests, investigators said they recovered a "stash of counterfeit bills, drugs and a truckload of computers, printers and other equipment used to produce fake IDs," according to the Hurricane Police Department.

“We filled the back of a police truck with computers, printers, laminating equipment, fraudulent documents and software. This is the biggest case I’ve ever seen like this," said detective Stacey Gubler.

The counterfeit money was all $100 bills, said Hurricane police spokeswoman Nancy Perkins. The investigation began with a routine traffic stop on Sunday, which led to the discovery of $8,000 in counterfeit money.

Officers noted the bills were a bit yellow and all of them extremely crisp, Perkins said.

Now, local police and the FBI are trying to figure out how many bills may have been passed in southern Utah or the surrounding areas.

"There are many lines to be followed," Perkins said. "We want to see how far it went and how many it may have affected."

In addition to money, the group was allegedly printing fake driver's licenses and employee work cards.

Jeron Scott Hales, 36, of Hurricane, was arrested Monday for investigation of identity fraud and possession of fake IDs. Catherine Ann Wever, 32, of Cedar City, was arrested for investigation of multiple counts of drug and forgery charges. Ronald Aaron Burch, 41, of Enterprise, was arrested for investigation of possession of counterfeit money, drug possession and having fake IDs.
