The debt ceiling is a function of the budget. In April, the Republican House passed a budget. The Democrat Senate did not, and they have not for two years. So the federal government plows through money with continuing resolutions. Raising the debt ceiling is equivalent to signing a blank check for tax and spending activity that has yet to be specified. Every time President Obama mentions the word crisis it costs me money.
The president says the average person probably isn't following the debt ceiling debate — he is wrong. And please don't tell me to eat my peas and do my homework, when you have done nothing all semester and are now cramming for the August 3 exam.
Pass a budget.
