FORT HOOD, Texas — The Army psychiatrist charged in the deadly Fort Hood shooting rampage is to be arraigned in a military court.
Wednesday will be Maj. Nidal Hasan's first courtroom appearance since the Army post's commander announced two weeks ago that Hasan would face the death penalty. He's charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.
It's unclear if Hasan will enter a plea Wednesday. Under military law, suspects cannot plead guilty in death penalty cases.
The military judge is expected to set a trial date.
Hasan's attorneys haven't said if they're considering an insanity defense. Hasan's mental evaluation report hasn't been disclosed.
The 40-year-old was paralyzed from the waist down after police shot him the day of the shootings in November 2009. He remains jailed.
