MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Federal prosecutors are using a casino lobbyist to try to back up a charge against a state senator of making a false statement to the FBI.

Country Crossing casino lobbyist Jennifer Pouncy testified Wednesday about a series of wiretapped phone calls she had with her boss, Jarrod Massey, about offers to state Sen. Jim Preuitt to support pro-gambling legislation. On the calls, they talked about the offers including $2 million in campaign contributions, polling and the free use of a campaign worker.

FBI agent George Glaser testified Tuesday that he interviewed Preuitt after he voted for the bill, and Preuitt said he knew nothing about bribe offers.

Preuitt is the only one of the nine defendants in Alabama's gambling corruption trial who is charged with making a false statement.
