SALT LAKE CITY — Utah is on tap to receive a large grant from the federal government to help spur more conservation efforts related to outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing or tourism.

The award of $488,956 comes from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and was announced by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

Grants are intended to help leverage public-private partnerships and promote the creation of urban parks, community green spaces and improve or restore public access to rivers, lakes or other water resources.

A total of $37.4 million is to be awarded to all 50 states, its territories and the District of Columbia.
