Ira Warren Worthen passed away on July 14, 2011. He was born on January 13, 1923 in Hunter, Utah to Frank Elliott and Cora Olive Hayden Worthen. He married Ethel Mae Goodenough on August 15, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 28, 1952. Ira was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served for many years at the church farm and 11 years at the Bishop's Store House in West Valley City, Utah. Ira worked for Kennecott for 42 years. He loved to garden. He grew a huge garden so he could share the vegetables and fruits with others, especially the widows in the ward. Ira leaves behind three children: Dwight (Rebecca) Worthen, Cherie Leishman, Paula (Vaughn) Barker; sister, LaDene Griswold; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; son, Glen Leon Worthen; parents and 10 brothers and sisters. The family extends a special thanks to Suzane Chambers and Jamie Roose for their help in caring for Ira and all the doctors and nurses at Pioneer Valley Hospital for their loving care for Ira during the last two days of his life. Graveside services for Ira will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:30 at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. A luncheon will follow at the Pleasant Green Ward House, 8739 West 3000 South, Magna, Utah for family and friends. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Humanitarian Center or the Perpetual Education Fund. Ira will be missed by all but we know he has had a wonderful reunion with his wife and son and other family members. Condolences may be sent to the family @www.valleyviewfuneral.com
