George Franklin Read 1929 ~ 2011
George Franklin Read passed away on July 18, 2011 from heart failure. He was born on December 15, 1929 in Salt Lake City to goodly parents, Robert Locke Read and Cora Lucile Hammond Read. George married his sweetheart, Joyce Harrington on Nov. 14,1958 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. They were blessed with two wonderful children; Valerie Wing (Greg) and Michael George Read (Cynthia); five precious grandchildren: Tiffany Stanger, Tyson Greg Wing, Kyle Read Wing, Janell Read and Aaron Michael Read, and two darling great-grandchildren: Bailey and Ryker Stanger. He was wounded in the Korean War in 1951 and discharged with honors and a purple heart in 1953. George endured multiple years of surgeries from war wounds. His physicians told him he was their patient with nine lives. George graduated from BYU with his degree in secondary education. He worked for the water department for over 30 years and as a supervisor for the water readers. He had a great work ethic and passed this trait onto his children. He taught us to never give up and always do our best. He was known for his continual acts of service to the many widows in the neighborhood. George always thought of others before himself and sacrificed unconditionally. He loved family gatherings and cherished the many memories that will remain with us always. Holidays were his favorite. He supported his children and grandchildren in their activities. He also loved teaching and was a great resource of knowledge. George had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a temple worker for over 20 years. He was a humble, spiritual giant with unconditional love for everyone. Our family expresses their love and appreciation to his dear daughter Val for her constant and continual dedication in caring for him over the years. We are most humbly grateful. Also, a huge thanks to the many doctors, nurses, and Intermountain Home Care for all the help they gave to George. We love you and will miss you until we meet again.
