Calvin C. Kuehner "Loving Husband & Father"
Calvin C, Kuehner PhD, retired Professor of Microbiology and Public Health, age 88, died at on July 19, 2011. He was born December 12, 1922, in Put-In-Bay, Ottawa County, Ohio, to the late Arthur O. and Bertha Schraidt Kuehner. He enlisted in the regular Army of the U.S. in 1941. He served in the Air Corps and Transportation Corps during World War II in Army administration. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He studied Japanese language and Culture at the University of Utah, but was never sent abroad. Calvin attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, and graduated from the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology with the degrees Bachelor of Science, (1949), Master of Science (1951) and Doctor of Philosophy (1953), with specialization in mycology and industrial fermentations. On August 18, 1947, he was united in marriage to Bonnie M. Murphy, daughter of James M. and Emma R. Murphy, of Columbus, Ohio, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Columbus, Ohio. Sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 19, 1970. He was a Professor of Microbiology at various universities. He was also active in many community and public health committees. Calvin retired in 1993, because of ill health. They then moved to Murray, Utah, to live with their daughter Mary, who was working in the Salt Lake Temple. Calvin is survived by his children, Dr. Charles Kuehner, Chicago, Illinois; Mary T. Kuehner and Carol Ann Kuehner, both of Murray, Utah; cousins Edward Walls, Jr, Melbourne, Florida; and Nancy Holbrook, Columbus, Ohio; and a niece, Martha Weger of Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie M. Kuehner, son, David Andrew Kuehner; and his parents. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 East 10600 South, with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
