Harold Woodrow Peterson 1915 ~ 2011
Harold Woodrow Peterson, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away July 19, 2011 of natural causes. He was born on May 20, 1915 in Mount Pleasant, Utah and was the son of Charles and Vera Peterson. Harold attended West High School and later graduated from the University of Utah in 1937 where at age 21 he received his commission from the United States Army. He met Elva Guyman while working at Utah Power and Light Company and later married her on April 5, 1941. They had a very happy and wonderful marriage of 60 years until she passed away in 2000. After her passing he recalled "I did everything in the world that I could for her as she did for me also." As World War II commenced with the attack on Pearl Harbor, Harold, being a commissioned officer, was sent to Europe where he spent three and a half years eventually becoming a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army commanding a battallion of 10,000 troops. Upon his return from overseas, he worked for First Security Bank eventually becoming an Officer until his retirement in 1980. Harold was noted for his smile, his sense of humor and the sparkle in his eye. He relished all sports including swimming, basketball, baseball and skiing, however, golf was his true passion. He enjoyed his last nine holes with his son and grandson on his 96th birthday in May. Harold was devoted to his family and is survived by his son William and daughter-in-law Kristi, their three children Scott (Autumn), Kristin, and Jill (Chris), five great-grand-children; Samantha, Scotty, Drew, Will and Alison, and his dear friend LaVern Thorell. Harold had a "Joie de Vivre" and recently wrote, " I've really had a great life, I've always been optimistic. I've had my ups and down as everyone else has had but I have survived them all. I would call myself a survivor." Harold's family expresses deep gratitude for the kindness and love from the Crystal Heights First Ward as well as his friends and neighbors. The Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Crystal Heights First Ward, 1970 E Stratford Ave. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services at the ward. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
