SANDY — The field is set for the 2011 Utah Championship.
This year's exemptions to the tournament, which tees off on July 28, have been given to University of Alabama graduate Bud Cauley, University of Washington graduate Nick Taylor, and PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour alumni Vance Veazey and Bob May.
Cauley made his professional debut at the U.S. Open, finishing tied for 63rd. He also finished tied for fourth at the PGA Tour's Viking Classic last week.
Taylor is a three-time Canadian Amateur Player of the Year. Veazey has collected four wins on the Nationwide Tour over his career and has a Top 10 finish on the PGA Tour.
May joined the PGA Tour in 1994 and has finished second three times, including his epic playoff against Tiger Woods at the 2000 PGA Championship.
There are 14 qualifying spots available to Utah's best players in 2011, compared to just four spots last year. Qualifying will be held Monday at Glen Eagle Golf Course.
"The talent level at this year's tournament is phenomenal," said tournament director Mike Smith. "Nearly all the top players on the Nationwide Tour will be here, including past champions from our event, as well as a number of players who have played on the PGA Tour."
SENIOR BRITISH OPEN: At Walton On The Hill, England, Mark Calcavecchia and Lee Rinker headed an American charge in the second round. Calcavecchia — one of three overnight leaders — made six birdies in his 3-under 69.
CANADIAN OPEN: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Michael Thompson followed up his even-par opening round with a 4-under 66 to move into a tie with fellow American Chad Campbell.
EUROPEAN TOUR: At Stockholm, Sweden's Alexander Noren shot a 6-under 66 to take a three-stroke lead.
EVIAN MASTERS: At Evian-les-Bains, France, Miki Saiki of Japan took a one-stroke lead, shooting a 5-under 67 in the second round to move 9 under as the drenched course started to dry out.
