EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A 10-year-old Eagle Mountain boy, who was killed Thursday in a Tooele County ATV accident, will be laid to rest Wednesday, his family says.

Jackson Noel Hitz was riding on the ATV with his daytime caretaker, Jennifer Medaris, 31, also of Eagle Mountain, when the vehicle apparently lost power while climbing a steep hill and fell off a 22-foot embankment into a ravine.

"Jackson is the best boy. Compassionate, loving, always willing to serve," his mother, Sammie Hitz, wrote in an email. "The very last conversation we had was where he expressed his excitement to receive the priesthood when he is 12 and his desire to serve a mission," for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"He loved the outdoors — swimming, paintball, riding his bike, jumping on the trampoline with his daddy — and reading with his mom, and playing with his brothers and sisters," his mother said.

Medaris was severely injured in the accident. An update on her condition was not available Friday. The accident happened in the Five Mile Pass area, which is about 15 miles west of Lehi.

Jackson Hitz left behind four siblings and three stepsiblings. His funeral will be held at the Rush Valley LDS meetinghouse Wednesday at 12 p.m. and buried at the Lehi cemetery.
