Lili Mori Kuida 1926 ~ 2011
Lili Mori Kuida was born in Magna, Utah in 1926 and died there on August 18, 2011. A Cyprus High School graduate, she married Hiroshi "Hip" Kuida in 1951. Hip recently passed away on August 2, 2011. Lili grew up working at her family's grocery store, Mori's Market, on Magna's Main Street, and later worked at Eagle Laundry in Salt Lake. Lili also worked for the Upward Bound program at Cyprus High, helping many young people to achieve their goals. Lili was a full partner with Hip in offering hospitality and support to Hip's medical students and cardiology fellows from the University of Utah School of Medicine. When her children competed for the Cyprus Pirates Swim Club, Lili provided countless hours of service to the team, including legendary lunches, and was a favorite of the swimmers and their families. Lili was an outstanding cook. Her specialties included chow mein and Chinese chicken salad. Governor Matheson loved her potato salad. An avid reader, Lili also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, shopping for shoes, knitting and baking pies with Hip, following figure skating, and watching Larry Bird and Magic Johnson play basketball. She especially loved being a mother and grandmother. Predeceased by her parents -Tsukasa "Thomas" and Yei Ito Mori -and her siblings - Henry, Atsuko, Suzy, Mari, and George. She is survived by her children - Robyn (Scott) Matheson, Lisa (Mark) Fischer-Colbrie, Elliot (Shannon) Kuida, and Sarah (Steve) Bagdoian - and grandchildren - Heather, Matt, Briggs, Tyler, and Megan. In lieu of flowers or koden, the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice. A memorial open house honoring Lili and Hip will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Fort Douglas Officer's Club, University of Utah, 150 South Fort Douglas Blvd, Salt Lake City, UT.
