Lenora Atkin Meeks 1931 ~ 2011

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother returned to her loving Heavenly Father on August 25, 2011, after a long joyful life. Lenora was born on June 6, 1931 in Hurricane, Utah to John Peter Atkin and Armina Hinton. She was the youngest of four children, with two older brothers, Dwain and Dennis, and one older sister, Nelda. On June 30, 1949, Lenora married her sweetheart, Dalton Robinson Meeks in the St. George temple. During their 62 years of marriage, she built a warm and loving home for her husband and children wherever they lived. Lenora's pursuits in life were fulfilled by showing love for her husband, family, and the gospel of Jesus Christ; as demonstrated through her service and compassion, raising four children, faithfully fulfilling many church callings and devoting many hours to family history. At a young age, Lenora began to search for her ancestors and through the years found thousands of past family members and had their temple work completed. She continued a love for learning by returning to college at the University of Utah in 1970 and completing her degree in Education, which led to 20 years of teaching elementary school. Later, she completed a Master's Degree in History from BYU. Lenora was able to complete and publish several books documenting the lives of ancestors. Though Lenora faced many trials in her life, her faith in and love of the Savior never wavered, as she looked forward to someday returning home to Him. She is survived by her husband, Dalton Meeks, her four children John (Akemi) Meeks, Laureen (Max) Hunsaker, Karaleen (Richard) Roper and Jaleen (Rick) Gaisford, and her grandchildren, John Meeks, Joshua (Jenna) Meeks, Max Hunsaker, Chase (Jen) Hunsaker, Lacee Hunsaker, Stacee Hunsaker, Kristina Roper, Lance Roper, Tiffany Roper, Sarah (Kellen) Gaisford Pecht, Tyler Gaisford, Bryan Gaisford., and her sister Nelda Calhoun. Funeral services will be held Mon. Aug. 29 at 11:00 a.m., Virgin Ward Chapel, 91 S. Mill Rd. Virgin, UT, where a viewing will be held Sun.
