PROVO — A volunteer at Deseret Industries made a surprising discovery while organizing the shoe section in the store. He found several thousand dollars stuffed in a shoe.

Steffen Bronson works at times sorting through donated items and other times he's going through the store at 1415 N. State making sure everything is put on the shelves in just the right place. But on Tuesday, while he was in the shoe section, he noticed something interesting.

"I looked down and there was something sticking out of the shoe," he said. "It looked out of place because that's not typical with the shoes, so I grabbed it and realized it was a huge wad of cash, really."

Stuffed in the shoe was several thousand dollars. Bronson says he stepped back for a bit and thought about how that money could really help out his financial situation, but in the end decided to alert a manager.

Provo police now have the cash and are praising Bronson for his honesty. Police will now look for the rightful owner of the cash. To claim it, that person will have to know a lot of details about the shoe, the money and how it was hidden.
