Diane Manwaring Snow1934 ~ 2012Diane Manwaring Snow, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away unexpectedly due to a probable pulmonary embolism on the evening of 10 October 2012 in Provo, Utah. She spent her last day doing what she loved: family history and talking to family and was getting ready to go to a temple recommend interview. We trust in Heavenly Father's plan and timing and are grateful she lived each day fully and never suffered. Her family will miss her greatly.Diane was born on 30 July 1934 to Richard Ariel Manwaring and Anna Elizabeth Anderson in Salt Lake City and was raised in San Mateo, California. She graduated from Brigham Young University with her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1956. An excellent teacher, she taught elementary school in the Jordan and Salt Lake City school districts for three years. She married Donald Ray Snow in the St. George LDS Temple on 21 March 1958. Don and Diane moved to Palo Alto, California where Don attended Stanford University. Two of their six children and a stillborn son were born there. Don's teaching took them to St. Paul, Minnesota where Diane gave birth to two more children. They then moved to Boulder, Colorado where yet another baby joined the family before settling in Provo, Utah, where their final child was born. Diane was active in the community, serving in the PTA as president and on the Provo Freedom Festival committee. She was adventurous and took her six young children to live in Lima, Peru for six months in 1974 and to Waterloo, Canada for one year in 1976 while Don was teaching mathematics at universities there. In 1983 she earned a Master's Degree in Humanities from BYU. She taught Humanities there between 1983 and 2000. She was an Associate Director of the BYU London Study Abroad program in 1990. They were longtime members of the Edgemont 8th ward and later moved to condos in the Edgemont 9th ward in Provo and Morningside 7th ward in St. George.Diane was a true blue BYU cougar sports fan, watching and cheering loudly at each football and basketball game. She loved to work in her yard and create beautiful things for her home. Always reading, she organized book clubs everywhere she lived. She planned yearly family reunions with her children and grandchildren and frequent "Girl's Trips" with her daughters and daughters-in-law. She loved to travel and to do family history research. She loved music and participated in many community and church choirs. She fulfilled a lifelong dream when she performed on stage as a missionary in Nauvoo. Diane loved studying the gospel and participating in gospel discussions.A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings in the Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society organizations. She served as ward organist, family history consultant, Sunday School teacher, and directed many roadshows and other dramatic productions. She was a member of the Church Music Committee that helped produce the current LDS hymnal. She was a temple ordinance worker for several years in the Provo Temple. She and Don developed and taught a series of Marriage Preparation workshops in the BYU 1st Stake. She served four LDS family history missions with her husband, Don: as directors of the New York Family History Center in Manhattan, New York; at the St. George Regional Family History Training Center in St. George, Utah; in the Illinois Nauvoo Mission creating a family history online database of all the early Church members; and in the Hyde Park Family History Centre in London, England. She and Don have taught many family history classes in their home, ward, at conferences, and workshops.Her greatest love was her family to whom she was a remarkable example. A vicarious romantic, she loved to hear what was happening in their lives. She was a cheerleader, confidante, and friend to them. Her high standards for herself and others continue to motivate her posterity and husband to do their best. Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, Donald Ray Snow; sister, Joyce Lynae Manwaring Duke (Ramon) of St. George, Utah; children, Donald Ray Snow Jr. (LeAnn) of Fountain Valley, California; Linda Westover (Kevin) of Orem, Utah; Judy Spencer (Lance) of Mesa, Arizona; Kathleen Gill (Thomas) of Kaysville, Utah; Jennifer Jackson (Michael) of West Valley City, Utah; and James Robert Snow (Jennie) of O'Fallon, Missouri; 30 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Monday, 15 October 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgemont 9th Ward chapel, 4295 N. Canyon Road, Provo, Utah. There will be a visitation Sunday, 14 October 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 E. Center St., in Provo and on Monday before the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo.
