CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire soon will have its first pro-gambling governor in a decade, but that doesn't necessarily mean a casino will open imminently.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Ovide Lamontagne (OH'-vid lah-MAHN'-tang), who opposed casino gambling when he ran in 1996, is now open to allowing a single casino at Rockingham Park in Salem. Democrat Maggie Hassan also supports allowing one highly regulated, high-end casino, though unlike Lamontagne, she is not set on a particular location.

But getting a bill through the Legislature will be difficult — the House never has supported expanded gambling bills.

Among those planning to file new bills is state Sen. Lou D'Allesandro. The Manchester Democrat says even though the gubernatorial candidates support one casino, the number of licenses he will include in his bill is still an open question.
