Sandra StansfieldApril 30, 1945 ~ Oct. 11, 2012On the beautiful Autumn night, of October 11, 2012, Sandra R. Stansfield, daughter of Louis and Althea Ray died peacefully after battling lung cancer. Born April 30, 1945 in Upland, CA, Sandie was most known for her vivacious and infectious personality that touched the lives of everyone she met. She could make a friend wherever she went, from the line at the supermarket to the radiation waiting room. Her witty sense of humor kept everyone laughing and on their toes. She enjoyed a variety of jobs throughout her life including being a phlebotomist at Holy Cross Hospital and medical billing at the University of Utah Hospital. She married Robert Stansfield and raised three daughters with him. They enjoyed many years together and although they later divorced, they remained good friends. She was a true example of selflessness shown by the unwavering sacrifice she gave caring for her handicapped brother, Gary. Sandie's immense love for her grandchildren was revealed as she cheered from the sidelines of every sporting event, dance recital, and graduation. She enjoyed reading, rooting for her favorite sports teams, and playing cards, but was most remembered for her love of animals. No matter how many pets she had there was always room for one more stray that needed nurturing, which lovingly earned her the title "The Crazy Cat Lady". Sandie left behind three daughters, Jeri (Greg) Carver, Debbie (Tony) Roberts, and Becca (Mitch) Chandler, grandchildren Greg, Linsy, Mcinsy, Levi, Austin, Paige, Cooper and Maggie, brother Mike and sister Cathy. She is reunited with her parents and brother Gary. A special thanks to Lee Ann Lawerence, a dear friend, and to First Choice Hospice for tenderly caring for Sandie in her last days. A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 6:00 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 17 from 10:00 11:00 a.m. at the Pheasant Point Ward 3113 West 13400 South, Riverton. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the ward building. Interment will be at Memorial Estates Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, Sandie requested that donations be made to the Utah Humane Society. Please take a moment and share a memory of Sandie at memorialutah.com
